Emergency Response Assistant / Coordinator

Position Objectives:

To assist PETA India’s emergency response team in handling urgent and cruelty cases involving animals

Term of Employment:

Full-time

Work Schedule:

A schedule will be provided that will include evening, night, and weekend work.

Location:

Delhi or Mumbai

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Respond to emergency and cruelty-case calls and e-mails in a prompt and appropriate manner
  • Respond to issues related to emergency and cruelty-case work, such as housing societies that wrongly impose restrictions on animal feeders and caretakers, with form letters and other approved means
  • Arrange timely, hands-on help for animals in need in Mumbai with the assistance of the senior paravet and office assistants, in accordance with PETA’s standard operating procedures and in consultation with the relevant supervisor
  • Coordinate promptly with approved animal-protection organisations or volunteers to address emergency or cruelty-case issues
  • File police complaints and First Information Reports, visit relevant agencies and case sites when needed, and perform similar tasks as necessary and assigned
  • Inform members of the public about ways they can help animals with appropriate responses to cases
  • Maintain and update a database of contacts and services available to PETA India’s emergency and cruelty-case response team as requested by the supervisor
  • In accordance with professional standards, ensure that thorough records are maintained for calls and e-mails received about emergencies and cruelty cases, including how they were handled and concluded
  • Obtain and manage emergency response supplies and equipment and ensure their proper maintenance, inventory, and storage
  • Participate in professional development training on animal handling, restraining, first aid, and other lessons relevant to appropriate emergency and cruelty-case response
  • Provide other services related to the emergency and cruelty-case response system, as directed by the supervisor
  • Represent PETA India professionally to the public, organisations, volunteers, veterinarians, government agencies, the police, and others, as directed by the supervisor
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree from a recognised institution
  • Voluntary or other experience handling emergency and cruelty-case responses for animals a plus
  • Computer proficiency
  • Fluency in Hindi and English
  • Knowledge of other local Indian languages a plus
  • Exceptional organisational and time-management skills, including multi-tasking
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to deal patiently with animal-protection organisations, volunteers, and other contacts
  • Passion for ending cruelty to animals and helping animals in need
  • Compassionate, responsible, and self-driven character
  • Outgoing and personable manner with excellent communication skills
  • Adherence to a vegan lifestyle
  • Ability and willingness to travel independently as needed to handle emergency and cruelty cases
  • Supportive position vis-à-vis PETA India’s philosophy and the ability to advocate for PETA India’s positions on issues in a professional manner
  • Commitment to the objectives of the organisation
