Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Handle emergencies by providing guidance to veterinary assistants and delivering effective veterinary treatment and care to animals in distress
  • Maintain PETA India’s standard operating procedures (SOP) and ensure veterinary assistants adhere to them
  • Work closely with PETA India’s Emergency Response Team and others involved with emergency response and ensure adherence to PETA India’s SOPs on emergency response, animal rescue, and sterilisation and rehabilitation work
  • Maintain stocks of veterinary medicines and equipment and ensure proper storage and maintenance of supplies, including treatment kits for veterinary assistants
  • Conduct timely quality and quantity checks of stock
  • Ensure that veterinary records kept by the ambulance team and veterinary assistants are maintained regularly and that veterinary reports are submitted weekly
  • Manage and help maintain a database of contacts and service providers
  • Inspect animals, document their condition for cruelty-to-animals cases, and participate in law-enforcement activities, including raids and rescues, travelling for them when necessary
  • Coordinate professional development training on animal handling, restraint, first aid, and other skill sets required by veterinary assistants for providing emergency response, rescue, and rehabilitation services

Qualifications:

  • Veterinary graduate degree approved by the Veterinary Council of India
  • Prior experience in a similar role, including working with stray animals, preferred

  • Conduct assigned short- and long-term investigations – including covert investigations – from beginning to end, including the following duties:
  • Conduct desk research on animal protection laws and issues including by analysing technical papers, watching videos, and employing any number of means in order to prepare thoroughly for investigations and create a comprehensive checklist
  • Travel to and stay on location for various assignments for as long as necessary (including for several weeks or months at a time, if required)
  • Use various methods to visit industries that use animals
  • Obtain, inspect, and keep copies of relevant documents and paperwork from government offices, businesses, and industries during investigations, as required
  • Develop and work with trusted contacts during investigations and ensure that confidentiality is maintained at all times

  • Participate in rescue operations and transport suffering animals to a PETA India–approved local veterinary hospital or animal shelter
  • Scout regularly in the assigned area, proactively looking for suffering animals, providing first aid and primary care, and seeking help from veterinarians in serious cases

  • Carry and use appropriate materials to restrain different species of animals while attending to their emergency care

Advocacy Research Associate

Position Objective:

To assist, support, and help advance the work of PETA India’s Advocacy Department

Term of Employment:

Reports to:
Director of Advocacy Projects

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assist the Advocacy Department in executing operational and administrative tasks
  • Conduct in-depth research to help advance campaigns
  • Prepare, organise, manage, and update data regarding government offices and institutions commonly contacted for advocacy projects
  • Maintain a list of members of Parliament and other government officials sympathetic to the cause of animal rights
  • Support advocacy staff in drafting and dispatching letters and any other communications required
  • Make follow-up calls and write e-mails as assigned
  • Attend meetings as assigned, and travel when necessary to attend these meetings
  • Assist teams with on-ground research and in the enforcement of animal protection laws as required
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Minimum graduate degree, preferably in a related field
  • Two years’ prior work experience, ideally in a comparable role, preferred
  • Fluency in both spoken and written Hindi and English (other languages a plus)
  • Strong verbal and writing skills, especially in English
  • Proven ability to work with individuals from different backgrounds
  • Excellent research skills
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Excellent administrative and record-keeping skills
  • Ability to think in a strategic manner
  • Outgoing and personable manner
  • Reliable and dependable
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools like Word and Excel
  • Ability and willingness to travel

Audio/Visual Assistant

Position Objective:

To assist the Audio/Visual Department with shooting, creating and editing photos and videos that will help People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India promote animal rights.

AV Manager and Producer, PETA India

Term of Employment:

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assist in creating informative, exciting, and cutting-edge videos for the organisation
  • Assist in conducting photo and video shoots and edits
  • Work closely with relevant PETA India departments on creative aspects of video production
  • Up to date with latest social media trends to be used in videos to lend them the best look and gain traction on social media
  • Use discretion in choosing appropriate footage for video edits
  • Handle various necessary aspects of video and photo storage and production
  • Adept at handling sound recording using various mics as per filming requirement
  • Coordinate with outside professional photographers and videographers when required
  • Maintain a complete and organised inventory of photographs and videos from staff members of PETA India, coordinating with PETA US when required and as per standard operating procedures
  • Adequately maintain all video and photographic equipment and supplies
  • Securely transfer footage from various locations as needed
  • Abide by any legal guidelines regarding video production as well as photo and video use from the start to the completion of projects
  • Work in compliance with the objectives, standards, and requirements of PETA India
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Degree in a related field preferred
  • Relevant experience of 1-2 years
  • Familiarity with video, audio, and photo equipment
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to deal professionally with staff members and the public
  • Ability to understand guidelines and feedback and implement them for creating successful content
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines in a professional manner
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times
  • Willingness and ability to travel
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 15 kilograms
  • Commitment to the objectives of the organisation
